‘Desperate Housewives’ scoop: A happy ending for Katherine and Robin?

    Monday, March 8th, 2010

News that ABC is looking to transfer Desperate Housewives’ Dana Delany to a new procedural next season would seem to suggest that her late-in-life-lesbian alter ego, Katherine, is headed straight off Wisteria Lane. But that may not necessarily be the case.

First off, Delany’s deal to join the cast of Body of Evidence is still not done. And second, even if the Emmy winner does sign on the dotted line, there’s no guarantee the pilot will become an actual series. “You never know with pilots,” Delany shrugs. “Many of them never get off the ground, so all this talk could be rendered [pointless]. But I am realistically hopeful. I love the [Evidence] character, so I hope it all works out.”

Delany’s ideal scenario has her headlining Evidence next season and making occasional guest appearances on Housewives. “[Series creator] Marc Cherry [promised] he would not kill me off and told me I was always welcome to come back to the Lane,” she says. “I would love for Katherine to pop into town and say hi to the gang every once in awhile.”

In the meantime, Delany remains focused on finishing out this season of Housewives. Does she think Katherine’s big gay awakening will stick? “This might actually be her thing,” she says. “It may make her happier than she has ever been. She does not have the best track record with men to begin with.”

Coincidentally, Delany’s current on-screen squeeze, Julie Benz, also landed an ABC pilot — the super-powered drama No Ordinary Family. For her part, Benz hopes the simultaneous bookings will result in a happy ending for Katherine and Robin. “I love the idea that those two may ride of into the sunset together.”

‘Desperate Housewives’ exclusive: Drea de Matteo to make ‘explosive’ exit in May

    Thursday, March 4th, 2010

A valuable piece of real estate is about to open up along America’s most popular cul-de-sac — and I’m not referring to Dana Delany’s possible departure: Drea de Matteo is leaving Desperate Housewives in May.

Series creator Marc Cherry, however, insists tabloid talk that the Emmy-winning Sopranos vet was fired because she wasn’t clicking with the cast is not true. “When I heard that stuff, I was stunned,” confesses Cherry. “We adore her. She is the sweetest gal in the world.”

The reality is, de Matteo’s stint on Housewives was never intended to go beyond this season, according to Cherry. “Part of the deal when we hired Drea was she was only interested in doing one season,” he explains. “She has a baby and is eager to get back to her life in New York.”

It’s fair to say de Matteo won’t be terribly missed by Housewives fans, many of whom never warmed to her icy character, fugitive matriarch Angie Bolen. But Cherry believes that has less to do with the actress and more to do with the nature of her story line. “We shielded parts of her character because of the mystery,” he says. “As we build toward the end and we start undoing the many layers of [Angie], everyone will get how brilliant she is.”

Cherry declined to reveal how Angie will exit Wisteria Lane (body bag? plane ticket?). Instead, he teases that the arrival in April of Torchwood’s John Barrowman as the man she has been on the run from will build to “an explosive finale,” during which “all the mysterious parts of her past will be revealed.”

Thoughts? Will you miss Angie? Sound off below!

This just in: Julie Benz gets close with Dana Delany on Desperate Housewives

    Friday, February 5th, 2010

This interview with Julie Benz aka Robin Gallagher, contains some spoilers for upcoming episodes of the show and part of Katherine/Dana’s storyline.

Julie Benz has an eclectic resume, but most AfterEllen.com readers know her as Darla on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel or, most recently, as Rita on Dexter(Caution: Spoilers ahead if you are a Dexterfan who isn’t caught up on season 4.).

Her latest role, as of last week’s episode of Desperate Housewives is as a stripper named Robin who befriends Susan (Teri Hatcher) before quitting her job and moving in with her. We found out this week that Benz’s character is a lesbian who will fall for Katherine Mayfair (played by Dana Delany). As of now, Benz isn’t sure how much longer Robin will be around Wisteria Lane, but she’s hoping it’ll be for more than just one kiss.

Will the ‘Desperate Housewives‘ plane crash have any real ramifications? The whole thing screamed “sweeps stunt” to me. – Randee

I’ll tell you this: The episode airing January 3, during which each Housewife imagines “What if…” scenarios in the wake of the Wisteria Lane tragedy, is 75 percent weightless piffle. But the 25 percent that isn’t is downright gangbusters drama, featuring some of the very best work done by two of the original cast members. Even if you think you know what’s coming, the waterworks are still gonna be gushing. So, short answer: Yes, real ramifications.

Scratch That, There Will be Two Wheelchairs!

    Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

    Possibly, that is.

Remember the jigsaw puzzle bit that is the Desperate Housewives plane crash death? Here’s another piece – TV Guide reports that, contrary to one spoiler, not one but two husbands will be wheelchair-bound thanks to this stupid plane crash. Yes, two housewives will be taking care of the men in their lives, with the help of qualified medical professionals.

According to a previous spoiler, one of the plane crash casualties is a husband who’ll find himself “paralyzed” and “quite the household tyrant from his wheelchair.”

Two husbands on a wheelchair? Sure Bree (Marcia Cross) is almost certain to be one of them, with either Orson (Kyle MacLachlan) or Karl (Richard Brugi) on the wheelchair (the other one dying, probably). But who’s the other one? The only other husband that looked like he was on harm’s way was possibly Lee, but the spoiler said housewives, not househusbands, will be in charge of taking care of the injured party.

Maybe Tom (Doug Savant)? Was Karen’s (Kathryn Joosten) boyfriend Roy? What do we think?

    There Will Be Wheelchair

    Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

This Desperate Housewives plane crash storyline is starting to seem like a protracted jigsaw puzzle. Some pieces come in here and there but nothing too conclusive to reveal the big picture. E! Online reports that one of the three to five casualties will be “a husband” who will find himself “paralyzed” and eventually become “quite the household tyrant from his wheelchair.”

Never mind that the photo that accompanied this Desperate Housewives spoiler on the original site is that of Bree (Marcia Cross) and Orson (Kyle MacLachlan), we’re almost sure that it’s going to be him that will be wheel-chair bound when the smoke settles on this one. He previously revealed that his character will return on January. So does this mean Karl (Richard Burgi) is one of the plane crash deaths?

That being said, there is a potentially tricky, sly episode coming up on the ABC dramedy. The flash-forward episode can very well feature characters who are killed, but present in the hypothetical future for the housewives. If that’s the case, the wheelchair-bound husband can be Karl, and the dead one will be Orson. I doubt this one, however.

    Number of Plane-Crash Victims

    Monday, December 14th, 2009

Dana Delany, co president of the Creative Coalition, arrives first and tells me that there are three upcoming deaths on Desperate Housewives, including a main character.

    Who is it?

    “It’s not me,” she adds.

Eva Longoria Parker arrives at 7:30 and dashes across the carpet—perhaps trying to avoid the frigid temps. When I run into her inside, she agrees to answer questions “as long as it’s not about lip gloss or diet.” She tells me she’s not getting killed off the show either, so Gabrielle fans can breathe easy.

“It’s not me, so that’s important!” she adds. She also tells me she’ll spend the holidays in Texas.

    ‘Desperate Housewives’ books Jane Leeves

    Friday, December 11th, 2009

Tom Scavo is finally getting professional help for that nasty mid-life crisis of his.

Desperate Housewives has inked a deal with Frasier’s Jane Leeves to play Tom’s psychotherapist in at least two episodes, sources confirm to me exclusively.

Leeves, whose arc kicks off in late January, isn’t the first Frasier grad to pass through Wisteria Lane. Harriet Samson Harris, who played Frasier’s brash agent Bebe, recurred in Seasons 1 and 2 as Felicia Tilman. And former Frasier showrunner Joe Keenan serves as a consulting producer on DH.

Tom won’t be the only Wisterian getting psychiatric attention in early ‘10. Word has it Katherine will also have her brain examined by a shrink in the new year. Better late than never!

    Any SVU scoop? — Melanie
MICKEY: A February episode caught my eye because of its guest stars. Not only will former Alias spy mommy Lena Olin appear as a crafty corporate attorney, but Richard Burgi (Desperate Housewives horndog Karl) will play her client. The episode is filming this week in New York City, which just might keep him away from Wisteria Lane, if you catch my drift.

Spoiler Chat: Will Kyle MacLachlan Die on Desperate Housewives? Get the Answer!

    Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

Question: If nearly every fan out there thinks you’re going to be killed off of a hit television show, what do you do?

You talk to E! about it, naturally!

At least, that’s what Kyle MacLachlan chose to do after rumors started swirling that he will be the “fan favorite” who will die in a fiery plane crash on Desperate Housewives.

So is his character Orson (Mr. Marcia Cross) going six feet under? We already reported that—Spoiler Alert!—he and Bree (Marcia) will be trapped inside their house. Hmmm…

Frankie in Atlanta: I’ve figured it out. It’s Orson who is going to die on Desperate Housewives, right?

Stand by while Kyle MacLachlan grabs the mic to tell you: “You heard it here first! I make it through and will be returning to the show.” Can I get a woot-woot? MacLachlan told us this news at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, confirming that Orson will survive the much-buzzed-about plane crash that, according to my in-house frenemy, leaves five characters dead.

I’m dying for information about the Bolens’ secret on Desperate Housewives. I have no idea. — Rachel T. Rex

MICKEY: First off, you’ll soon discover that the Bolens have been on the run for a long time. Second, I think they’re having a lot of fun right now making poor Nick (Jeffrey Nordling) seem as creepy as possible, but in the end, I think it’s just misdirection: The Bolens’ secret is about what Angie did, and she’ll pay the price.

In fact, the plane is going to crash into the house of one of the lovely ladies you see above.

And another Housewife pictured above is in serious jeopardy of losing two loved ones.
