Desperate Housewives may have one more time warp in it before it signs off in May.

The ABC soap — which famously jumped ahead five years at the end of Season 4 — may take a more substantial leap (read: a few decades) in the series finale.

“That has been discussed,” confirms showrunner Bob Daily. “Viewers have spent eight years worth of Sundays on Wisteria Lane, and we feel like that street is a character on the show. And whether the women [still live there] or not, we want to give some kind of sense of what will be happening on Wisteria Lane in the future… and leave them with the feeling that life goes on.”

One thing the show’s swan song probably won’t feature is the death of one of the core housewives. “We feel very protective of our four main women,” says Daily of the characters played by Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross and Eva Longoria. “Which is not to say that one of our [other] main, top 10 characters won’t bite it. We have talked about that.”

Housewives‘ eighth and final season premiere son Sunday, Sept. 25 at 9/8c.

Renowned TV badass Miguel Ferrer is taking his special brand of intensity to Wisteria Lane.

The Crossing Jordan vet (who’s currently starring in the Lifetime procedural The Protector) is joining the final season of Desperate Housewives in the recurring role of Andre Zeller, a renowned and temperamental contemporary artist who is teaching a course at the local college.
Desperate Housewives Scoop: How Will It End?!

Mr. Zeller is very demanding of his students, one of whom is part-time illustrator Susan (Teri Hatcher). “He clashes with Susan when she goes back to art school,” reveals a Housewives insider of Ferrer’s character.

I smell some fresh competition for Mike Delfino.

Ferrer joins a Season 8 guest cast that also includes the Friends‘ Jessica Hecht (as a love interest for Tom) and V‘s Charles Mesure (as Renee’s new man).

Housewives‘ eighth (and final) season launches on Sept. 25.

The newly announced final season of ABC’s Desperate Housewives will include several family reunions on The Lane.

Felicity Huffman has already told The Hollywood Reporter that things will look rocky when we meet up with Lynette on the new season, but an ABC spokesperson confirms that Sarah Paulson reprises her role as Lynette’s loser sister, Lydia, for one episode. And she has apparently had a reversal of fortune.

“Lynette always helped put the pieces back in Lydia’s disastrous personal life, but she is now engaged and shows up with her new fiancé,” executive producer Bob Daily tells TVGuide.com.

“We’ll hear her say, ‘Oh Lynette, I’m so sorry. What can I do to help?’ The seeds of sibling rivalry are planted as the roles are reversed,” Daily elaborates.

Paulson first appeared on Desperate Housewives’ Season 4 in 2007. Viewers may remember her from the first and only season of ABC’s Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip and later on the network’s short-lived series, Cupid. She has also appeared as the younger version of Meredith’s mom, Ellis Grey, on Grey’s Anatomy.

Daily also says fans can expect some of the children to return for the final season, including Susan’s (Teri Hatcher) daughter, Julie (Andrea Bowen), Bree’s (Marcia Cross) daughter, Danielle (Joy Lauren), and an older Kayla, Tom’s (Doug Savant) illegitimate daughter previously played by Rachel Fox.

EXCLUSIVE: It’s a sad day for the smart and sassy suburban women on Wisteria Lane and the worldwide audience of approximately 120 million who watch them. We’ve just learned that ABC will announce on Sunday to the Television Critics Association that this 2011-2012 season will be the last for long-running Desperate Housewives.

Key castmembers are starting to be told, and we hear that Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross, and Eva Longoria are shocked and saddened since the ABC Studios series created by Marc Cherry was expected to continue until 2013 after the longtime showrunner said that he wanted the show to go for 9 seasons.
