Episode Sixteen: The Ladies Who Lunch
The long anticipated 16th Episode started out with juicy bang for the residents of Wisteria Lane. The neighborhood whore, a.k.a. Maisy Gibbons, was arrested for prostitution. Dawned in her finest hot-pink nighty, Mrs. Gibbons, or "Worlds Best Mom" was dragged out of her house kicking and screaming by an undercover. Could you blame her neighbors for the sudden cellphone activity?
Meanwhile, there is a witch hunt underway at Lynette's children's school. A sudden outbreak of lice has the other Wisteria mothers pointing fingers at our favorite dysfunctional mom. Lynette embarks on a school-wide manhunt for the source of the lice outbreak, fully confident that the Scavo boys had nothing to do with it!
The happy Van de Kamps enjoyed a meal at their favorite country club where Maisy Gibbons "activities" saturated every conversation. Among the chit-chat and gossip, Bree and Rex learn that Maisy will be giving up her little black book. No doubt Rex's "perverted sexual fantasies" will be exposed. This sends Bree with freshly baked muffins in hand to the county jail where she confronts Maisy and asks her, politely, to scratch Rex's name off her list of clients. Maisy isn't too suseptable to Bree's request and the two exchange words before Bree marchs out, Muffins in hand.
An absent face from the Wisteria Lane weekly poker game was Susan, who was at home, mending her wounds caused by one Mike Delfino. Amidst conversation Edie inquires to Susans wear abouts -- and then prys some more. Lynette is hesitant to tell Edie the truth but teaches her a lesson or two about friendship. It proves invaluable as Edie pays Susan a visit and convinces her go out and get drunk. The pair end up at the famous bull-riding bar and over several shots and beers, Susan tells Edie about the conversation she had with Paul Young. Susan proposes that perhaps Paul killed Martha. Maybe Susan isn't as big of a ditz as we thought!
After many rounds the two end up at the Young house and break in. Their snooping leads them to find a videotape of Mary Alice -- one that Paul watched earlier in the episode. Guess who is standing next to our favorite suicide victim? Martha Huber's sister. It appears as though the two worked together in Utah. With mysteries swirling, Edie and Susan attempt to watch the video but are interrupted by the one true Wisteria family man. Susan hides and Edie improvises... by laying a long wet one on Paul. At first, he's a little shocked. Who wouldn't be? But as to be expected, its obvious that he enjoyed it.
As Susan makes her way back to her house, Mike confronts her about not taking any of his phone calls. The two share a passionate kiss, but Susan is not impressed, and they part ways. What will happen to everyone's favorite couple?
The financial trouble of the Solis' has finally caught up with them; after sewage begins to back up in their house, and with no money to fix it, the two improvise. Gabrielle steals a port-o-pody and has to resort to shaving her legs in the jaccuzi. The relationship between Gabrielle and Carlos appears to be mending as they two spend more time together and continue to face various obstacles in their lives.
The explosive secret of the Van de Kamps is let loose, and just as everyone was discussing Maisy's disturbing behavior, the focus has now switched to Rex. At the country club, again, amid whispers and chatter, Bree and Rex argue about the situation and Bree convinces Rex to hold his head up high, sit down, and finish his lunch. One could say Rex asked for it, since he enjoys being "embarrassed" so much.
The episode ends with a testimate to friendship. Bree lends Gabrielle the money needed for her and Carlos to get back on their feet. The two exchange words in a touching moment.
EPISODE QUOTES
Bree: Bree: "Rex, if you walk out of this restaurant, I will scream. I will scream about your cruelty. Then I will scream about your infidelity. You want to know what true humiliation is, you just take one step."Bree: "Good friends offer to help in a crisis; great friends don't take no for an answer."
Edie: "What the hell kind of street do we live on?"
Gabrielle: "As I see it good friends avoid each other after being humiliated, but great friends pretend nothing happened in the first place."
Mary Alice: "Yes, everyone loves a scandal no matter how big or small. After all what can be more entertaining than watching the high and mighty fall? And if, for some reason, you're not enjoying the latest one, there'll soon be another."
